Laughter is the best medicine

Meg, Jan, and Kate Bres, Harrison Broach, James Mittelholzer, Austin Graf, and Charlie Graf enjoyed cocktails and comedy from actor David Spade at the 12th annual Stand Up for Brain Cancer gala benefiting the Broach Foundation. More than 450 supporters gathered in the ballroom at River Oaks Country Club for a VIP cocktail hour, dinner, and comedy show. Spade greeted guests during the cocktail hour and cracked jokes while taking photos with supporters. Jamie Broach Byrd and Jeff Byrd and their children led this year’s gala, with Parker Broach opening the event with a joke that had the audience in stitches. Mistress of ceremonies Ilona Carson introduced speaker Fred Lang, MD, head of the Department of Neurosurgery at MD Anderson Cancer Center. David Spade headlined the gala to raise funds for The Broach Foundation, established in honor of James Broach, that has given more than $6 million to fund clinical trials for the most aggressive form of brain cancer, glioblastoma.
