Happy Friday! There's lots going on this weekend, including Día de los Muertos celebrations and more fun happenings.
The International Quilt Festival

The International Quilt Festival is the largest annual quilt show in the U.S. and takes place each fall in Houston. The festival regularly attracts more than 40,000 people from over 25 countries all around the world. There’s shopping at more than 700 booths for quilts, fabric, supplies, and crafts, along with 350 classes and lectures for all experience levels. The festival features more than 1,200 quilts and unique works of textile art on display.
Asia Society Texas' 12th Annual Night Market

For its biggest night of the year, Asia Society Texas will transform its parking lot, front lawn, and a block of Southmore Boulevard into a free outdoor market bustling with food trucks, retail and food vendors, live music and dance, and special activations. In addition to shopping and eating locally, guests can enjoy a beer garden, activities by NASA, screenings presented by Netflix, a Chinese lantern display previewing Houston Botanic Garden’s upcoming Radiant Nature installation, live music, and K-Pop dance performances. Inside AST’s Center, guests will enjoy after-hours access to the Space City: Art in the Age of Artemis exhibition, an Otaku Alley highlighting all things manga and anime, carnival games, mahjong, and more.
Día de los Muertos at Discovery Green

Celebrate Día de los Muertos with hands-on art activities, artist demos, vendors and more. There will be cultural performances and music by Houston’s Nick Gaitan playing Tejas Roots Music (boleros, Tex Mex and Chicano Soul).Houston artist Angel Quesada to build a community ofrenda, or altar, to help visitors remember their loved ones during Día de los Muertos. Visitors are invited to place images or recuerdos of their loved ones on the community altar. (Copies of photos only. Please do not bring anything irreplaceable.)

Calavera con Calavera (Skulls) is an original piece written by Indigo Theater Group’s President, Eddie Gonzalez, dwelling on the lives of The Burgos Family during their Day of the Dead annual tradition celebration at the Hacienda Calvario. This performance is in Spanish with English subtitles.

The Jewish Book & Arts Festival, presented by the Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center, includes a wide variety of compelling speakers and events for the whole family. Opening night, featuring Noa Tishby, takes place on Sunday at Congregation Beth Israel. This weekend, the lineup includes Oliver Lapin Family Day at the Merfish Teen Center, which explores a collection of stories that teach children how determination, kindness, and teamwork can change the world.
