Commissioned by Houston Grand Opera in partnership with Asia Society Texas, The Big Swim is a witty, heartwarming one-act opera. The Big Swim is a retelling of the Jade Emperor and the Great Race – a fable that sets the order of the 12 animals in the Chinese zodiac calendar. The Big Swim is presented as part of Asia Society Texas' Lunar New Year festivities and will be preceded by activities, including shadow puppets, calligraphy demonstrations, and an original children's dance piece "The Giant Serpent" by Nao Kusuzaki celebrating the Year of the Snake.

ROCO's "Courage" spotlights the full 40-piece chamber orchestra at The Church of St. John the Divine. Led by ROCO’s newest Artistic Partner Delyana Lazarova, and featuring acclaimed pianist Lara Downes, this concert is a testament to daring artistry. The Houston Youth Symphony joins ROCO once again in a dynamic side-by-side collaboration, for Emilie Mayer‘s bold Overture No. 2 in D Major.

Houston Friendship Walk/5k is an annual event that raises funds and awareness for The Friendship Circle, a nonprofit organization supporting individuals with disabilities and their families. The one-mile fun run/walk and 5K begins at 12 p.m. and a food fair and fun begins at 12:30 p.m. The Therapy Dog & Sensory Friendly tent will be available to all Friendship Circle supporters.
