Commissioned by Houston Grand Opera in partnership with Asia Society Texas, The Big Swim is a witty, heartwarming one-act opera. The Big Swim is a retelling of the Jade Emperor and the Great Race – a fable that sets the order of the 12 animals in the Chinese zodiac calendar. The Big Swim is presented as part of Asia Society Texas' Lunar New Year festivities and will be preceded by activities, including shadow puppets, calligraphy demonstrations, and an original children's dance piece "The Giant Serpent" by Nao Kusuzaki celebrating the Year of the Snake.

ROCO's "Courage" spotlights the full 40-piece chamber orchestra at The Church of St. John the Divine. Led by ROCO’s newest Artistic Partner Delyana Lazarova, and featuring acclaimed pianist Lara Downes, this concert is a testament to daring artistry. The Houston Youth Symphony joins ROCO once again in a dynamic side-by-side collaboration, for Emilie Mayer‘s bold Overture No. 2 in D Major.

Houston Friendship Walk/5k is an annual event that raises funds and awareness for The Friendship Circle, a nonprofit organization supporting individuals with disabilities and their families. The one-mile fun run/walk and 5K begins at 12 p.m. and a food fair and fun begins at 12:30 p.m. The Therapy Dog & Sensory Friendly tent will be available to all Friendship Circle supporters.

If four-legged football is more your thing, watch the Puppy Bowl on Animal Planet. Watch adorable pups (all up for adoption) compete on Animal Planet, Discovery, TBS, or truTV, Max, and Discovery+. Although there are no Houston pups in the running this year like when Houston Texans' Kirby competed or like in 2020, there is so much cuteness, you won't want to miss it. 

Super Bowl LIX: Kansas City Chiefs vs. Philadelphia Eagles

Whether you tune in for the football, the commercials, the Taylor spotting, the halftime show, or gather for the snacks, here’s what you need to know: Super Bowl LIX will be live on FOX with kickoff at 5:30 p.m. Or stream on the NFL app or watch on Fubo. Grammy-winning rapper Kendrick Lamar is headlining the halftime show.
