Kindred SOUL: Celebrating the Legacy of King and Gandhi is an original collaborative production featuring members of the Scott Joplin Chamber Orchestra and the Silambam Houston Dance Company, and featuring celebrated vocalist Christina Wells. The performance will include music from several genres of Black music tradition, including soul, jazz, blues, and ragtime, performed live, and interpreted through the centuries-old Indian dance tradition of Bharatanatyam – a versatile, expressive, rhythm-centric dance form rooted in the rich cultural heritage of South India.

The Houston Chamber Choir presents Gather ‘Round on Saturday, May 31, at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, concluding its 2024–2025 season, From Startup to Standout, with a special tribute to its founder and artistic director, Robert Simpson. This performance marks Simpson’s final regular season concert with the choir, capping three decades of transformative leadership that established the ensemble as a Grammy Award-winning powerhouse in the choral world here and abroad. Conducted by Simpson, Gather ‘Round promises to be a heartfelt evening of music and memories. The Texas Medical Center Orchestra presents a two-part musical performance this Saturday evening. The first half of the performance will feature Dr. Mann-Wen Lo performing Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E minor. This concerto is known for its lyrical beauty, dynamic range, and technical brilliance. The second half of the concert will transport the audience to the mythical and magical world of Scheherazade by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov. Inspired by the legendary stories of One Thousand and One Nights, this symphonic suite tells the tale of the Sultan Sharyar and his evolving relationship with the storyteller, Scheherazade.
