Stay safe this weekend, Houston! Meteorologists are anticipating a severe winter storm with icy roads starting Saturday night in Houston. Here’s what's planned for the weekend, but please be cautious and check local weather reports, as well as event sites for any weather-related updates.

Galveston Museum Weekend

Galveston Museum Weekend offers visitors the chance to explore 14 museums at free or discounted rates, making it the perfect opportunity to discover the stories behind this historic beach town. While Galveston is well-known for its 32 miles of beautiful beaches, the island is also home to many incredible museums and attractions that showcase its unique heritage. Visit three or more participating museums to earn a Galveston coloring book and a chance to win a one-night stay at The Tremont House with VIP attraction passes. The ArtWalk is one of the most iconic parts of Galveston's Art Week. This year, it has 22 stops, which include art galleries, public spaces, and even cafes and bars.
Galveston Art Week: Celebrate Creativity on the Gulf Coast

This weekend caps off a week of celebrating creativity in Galveston's Cultural Arts District! From captivating gallery exhibitions to engaging workshops and live performances, Art Week offers a variety of activities for everyone. Enjoy free events and paid experiences that highlight local talent and culture. Highlights include: Art Drop, a free, peer-to-peer art exchange; The Perspective Intérieure Art Contest, which invites artists to capture the beauty, character, and stories of Galveston’s historic interiors; and the Art Walk, where galleries, studios, local businesses, and public spaces in the Cultural Arts District open their doors for the community to explore.

Houston Arboretum & Nature Center hosts its annual Arbor Day Celebration, the perfect time to recognize the importance of trees and all they do for us. Not only do trees produce oxygen and sequester carbon dioxide, but they also provide homes for animals, recharge groundwater, replace soil nitrates, prevent erosion and offer shade to keep us cool. Test your skills with lumberjack games, build a fairy house, explore the forest on a self-guided hike, and even meet Johnny Appleseed. There will be plenty of tree activities and crafts to enjoy. Crafts will be available while supplies last. Dress for the weather.
2026 Astros FanFest

Kick off the 2026 Astros season with Astros FanFest, where you can find your favorite players, coaches, alumni, and broadcasters. There will be autograph sessions, photo opportunities, the World Series and American League Championship Trophies, games and more. Ticket proceeds benefit the Astros Foundation. All fans must have an admission voucher to enter FanFest (mobile entry only). A limited number of vouchers will be available on the morning of the event. Fans can enter FanFest at the Home Plate, South Home Plate, Right Field Gate, Center Field Gate or Left Field Gate. Designated parking will be available in Astros Parking Lot A, Lot B and Lot C for $10.

Visit the two MFAH house museums - Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens and Rienzi - for an afternoon of free, family-friendly programs that connect myths, folklore, and American & European history through storytelling, music, activities, and demonstrations. At Bayou Bend, visit with experts on the origins and legends of baseball; explore Native American legends; hear the story and background behind the poem “Paul Revere’s Ride”; learn to lasso with a cowboy; and more. At Rienzi, search for all of the mythological figures hiding throughout the house; learn more about Greek and Roman heroes and myths; and go home with your own mythological creation. Park at Bayou Bend and take the complimentary shuttle between locations! Children of all ages welcome.
