Conversations In Depth: The Power of Meaning
Author and researcher Emily Esfahani Smith and Jung Center Executive Director Sean Fitzpatrick will have a conversation on “the power of meaning.” What’s more vital to living a good life than being happy? According to Emily Esfahani Smith, it’s meaning. How do we create meaning in our lives? How do we identify what makes life worth living? And where does happiness ultimately fit into all of this?
In her book The Power of Meaning, author and researcher Emily Esfahani Smith says it’s meaning, not happiness, that is the key to a good life. From the TED2017 mainstage to her viral Atlantic article “There’s More to Life Than Being Happy,” Esfahani Smith helps us develop genuine cultures of meaning – in life, and at work. Esfahani Smith offers methods for individuals to let go of unreasonable, unattainable standards of happiness, overcome adversity, and pursue goals that reward over the long haul.
The reception will take place at 5:30 p.m. at The Jung Center; the lecture will take place at 7 p.m. at the Brown Auditorium (1001 Bissonnet).
