Harvey on stage
Stratford High School’s Stratford Playhouse had originally planned to do the play The Rimers of Eldrich, but after Hurricane Harvey hit, they decided to do a show that was more heartwarming. In four weeks, directors CeCe Prudhomme, Christian Holmes and David Clayton selected the cast, built the set, rehearsed nonstop and conducted eight performances. Harvey, a comedy written by Mary Chase, is the story of a gentleman, Elwood P. Dowd, and his best friend and confidant, Harvey. Harvey is an imaginary six-foot-three-and-a-half-inch rabbit. Much to the horror of his sister, Veta, Elwood loves to introduce his invisible friend to everyone he meets. To spare her daughter and the family from the embarrassment of his behavior, Veta decides a peaceful sanitarium might be a suitable move for Elwood. The sanitarium turns out to be the perfect place for a comedy-of-errors that prove Elwood may be the sanest character around.
