Event Roundup: What to Look Forward to This Weekend
Happy Friday and happy March! It’s a busy weekend in Houston – be sure to check out these fun events happening around town!
48th Annual Azalea Trail
Celebrate the beginning of the spring season with the 84th annual Azalea Trail! The event kicks off with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday morning at the Lazy Lane entrance of Bayou Bend. But you can visit all weekend long – a ticket gives admission to six locations within the River Oaks neighborhood.
The Rink – Rolling at Discovery Green
Enjoy roller skating at Houston’s first outdoor roller rink, located in Discovery Green! The Rink’s opening party takes place Friday evening, with live DJs, roller derby demos and more! The rink will be open for seven weeks. Hours are 5 p.m.-10 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 5 p.m.-11 p.m. on Fridays, 11 a.m.-11 p.m. on Saturdays and 11 a.m.-9 p.m. on Sundays.
Rodeo Houston
Dress in your best Western attire and head to the Houston Rodeo and Livestock Show this weekend! In honor of Black Heritage Day on Friday, the rodeo festivities include historical educational displays, along with special entertainment at the Champion Wine Garden and in The Hideout and an evening performance by rapper Cardi B. Saturday and Sunday feature first-time rodeo performances by Turnpike Troubadors and Panic! At the Disco.
Mardi Gras Galveston
Head down to Galveston to celebrate Mardi Gras at Texas’ largest Mardi Gras celebration, where more than three million beads are thrown and you can enjoy nonstop music, food, parades and more! Saturday night is the Knights of Momus Grand Night Parade, where several Buzz-area residents selected as duchesses will ride in a float and Sunday features a Children’s Parade among a number of other fun events.
Houston Kosher Chili Cookoff
Enjoy an afternoon of food, fun while raising money for local Jewish community nonprofits at the 8th annual Houston Kosher Chili Cookoff on Sunday. The event attracts more than 3,500 people each year for live music, climbing walls, a jalapeño eating contest and a silent auction. Cooking teams will be judged by celebrity and media judges, and winners of the chili tasting contest will take home coveted prizes!
Shriners Hospitals for Children College Classic
Watch some of the country’s best collegiate baseball this weekend while supporting Shriners Hospital for Children at the 2019 Shiners Hospitals for Children College Classic. This three-day tournament features six Texas programs: Baylor, Rice, Houston, TCU, Texas A&M and Texas State. Buy a ticket for one game or get a pass for the whole weekend!
