Checkmates Concert Featuring Nobel Prize Winner Jim Allison

The Checkmates, a band primarily made up of MD Anderson Cancer Center doctors and staff including recent Nobel Prize winner Dr. Jim Allison on blues harp, will put on a show benefiting Halo House.

It’s time to gear up for a fun night of great music, food, and friends as the band, The Checkmates, puts on a show benefiting local cancer charity, Halo House Foundation.

The Checkmates are primarily made up of MD Anderson Cancer Center doctors and staff including recent Nobel Prize winner Dr. Jim Allison on blues harp. This is the second benefit concert they’ve performed on behalf of Halo House. Their 2018 concert raised $50,000 and was a sold-out event at 300 attendees. Tickets are going fast with expectations that this year’s concert will also sell-out. The upcoming concert will feature band members Dr. Greg Lizee (Drums), Dr. Anthony Lucci (Guitar), Adela Justice (Bass), Daron Gilmore (Vocals), Nina Boulton (Vocals), Dr. Patrick Hwu (Keyboard), Dr. Powel Brown (Trumpet), Scott Krueger (Trombone), Kyle Krueger (Baritone Sax), and Dr. Ferran Prat (Tenor Sax).

In June 2019 Halo House will open the doors to its brand new 33 unit facility and the proceeds raised at the concert will go towards providing housing at their new building. The charity provides low-cost housing for those undergoing cancer treatment in Houston.
