Giving 1,200 books
Natesha Tama-Madison (pictured) spearheaded a book drive in the spirit of honoring Mental Health Awareness Month. Over four days, nearly 1,200 gently used children’s, teen, and non-fiction books were collected and distributed to local daycares, school campuses, and refugee camps in Harris County. The book drive was a spur-of-the-moment decision, when she came across a statistic that 61 percent of low-income families in Houston don’t have books in their homes for their children. She plans to host another book drive soon.
