At the end of September, the Incarnate Word Academy student council hosted a dance. The Back to School Social was the first on-campus event since the start of Covid, and it set a new standard for high school dances.
The whole evening was a student-run fundraiser for future dances. Overall, $2700 was raised for IWA's future events, setting a record high for IWA. Incarnate Word’s student council hopes to host many more memorable events and dances.
IWA student council spent hours putting this event together. Over a two-day period, they decorated the whole auditorium and cafeteria in glow-in-the-dark designs. Preparations included making the flyers, setting up the DJ and snack table, and transforming the cafeteria and auditorium into a whole new environment.
Tickets were purchased at the door and all that was required for entry was a student ID and a mask. Catholic school students from all around Houston were invited. Students who showed up in the glow-in-the-dark theme received free snacks.
Glow-in-the-dark themed dress included neon T-shirts and jeans. Along with dancing and socializing, there were games such as mega Jenga, Connect Four, and even a face paint station. All students were able to request songs from the DJ and have a collaborative playlist to make the night the best it could be. The event was a success and a total blast!
Our student council got a lot of positive feedback from the student body, saying how much fun they had and how good the campus looked as a whole. This will definitely set the standard for dances to come!
