Event Roundup: What to Look Forward to This Weekend

Ring in the Year of the Tiger with performances, arts and crafts activities, food, and more at Asia Society Texas.

Memorial Park's Land Bridge Tunnel Preview Party
Memorial Park Conservancy, along with project partners the City of Houston, Houston Parks and Recreation Department, Kinder Foundation and Uptown Houston, invites Houstonians for a free event on Saturday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. celebrating Memorial Park’s transformational Land Bridge and Prairie project. This family-friendly celebration in the park will feature a live DJ, fun photo opportunities, food trucks, giveaways, and more. 

2022 Lunar New Year Festival at the Chinese Community Center
Join the Chinese Community Center for a free, family-friendly outdoor event at their venue on Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. featuring a wide variety of cultural and family activities, vendors, LNY merchandise, delicious food, and exciting performances to welcome in the Year of the Tiger.

Lunar New Year 2022 with Asia Society Texas 
Asia Society Texas invites Houstonians to celebrate the Lunar New Year with a free, family-friendly festival on Saturday, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Asia Society Texas Center. Ring in the Year of the Tiger with performances, art and craft activities, and food inspired by Lunar New Year traditions across Asia. The free event includes a variety of fun activities including lion dancing, hourly interactive story times, ticketed music and dance performances by Huaxing Arts Group, and complimentary gallery access to ASTX’s upcoming exhibition.

BLCK Market- Black History Month Celebration at Karbach Brewing Co 
Come out to Karbach Brewing Co. Sunday, 11 a.m.-6 p.m. for a Sunday Funday with BLCK Market, a Houston-based initiative to support and purchase products from Black-owned businesses and creators. There will be 20+ vendors and live entertainment, including dance troupes, brass bands, emerging artists, marching bands, drumlines. On Sunday, the market will feature artist THE CITY from 1:30-2:30, along with food trucks The Brunch Bus & Smoked it Up BBQ. 

ReelArt Opening Reception
Come see the world through the eyes of artists from Celebration Company, an entrepreneurial employment program for adults with disabilities. Featured artist is Sevy Eicher, an 18-year-old internationally collected artist with Down Syndrome. (Read more about Sevy in this March 2019 Buzz article.) The ReelArt opening reception, a free event on Sunday, 1-4 p.m. at Sabine Street Studios, will kick off ReelAbilities Houston, a film and arts festival that uses the arts as a vehicle to promote inclusion and amplify the voices of people with disabilities locally and nationally. Registration is preferred.  

Houston Rockets vs. New Orleans Pelicans  
The Rockets (14-36) face off against the New Orleans Pelicans (18-32) Sunday at 6 p.m. at the Toyota Center. Fans can also enjoy $1 hot dogs and $5 beers for Sunday Funday. Tickets start at $11.
