Happy Friday! Here are some highlights happening around town this weekend:
Houston Astros vs. Miami Marlins
This weekend the Houston Astros will take on the Miami Marlins at Minute Maid Park, Friday, 7:10 p.m.; Saturday, 3:10 p.m., and Sunday, 1:10 p.m.
Wonka at Miller
Open Dance Project's Wonka, Friday, 8:30 p.m., is a tribute to Roald Dahl’s classic coming-of-age story, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. This dance theater performance celebrates the wit and imagination of Roald Dahl through a blend of athleticism and humor with a multigenerational cast of professional dancers and aerialists.
The Heritage Society: Special Juneteenth Program
The Heritage Society presents "From Plantation to Emancipation!" on Saturday, 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m., an educational Juneteenth program with speakers, poetry, singing, and a Red Punch and Tea Cake reception. See the schedule of events here.
AsiaFest at Asia Society Texas
Asia Society Texas celebrates the 10th anniversary of the Texas Center’s opening with the return of AsiaFest on Saturday, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Embark on a global adventure using an "event passport" to explore the vibrant traditions, cultures, and food of four different regions of Asia. A full day of free fun for all ages awaits with dance and music performances, arts and crafts, cuisine, dragon boat demonstrations, and free access to the Making Home: Artists and Immigration exhibition.
Houston Dynamo Charities Cup
The Houston Dynamo is hosting Atlético San Luis at PNC Stadium for the 11th edition of the Dynamo's Charities Cup, an annual exhibition match bringing prominent international teams to Houston to raise money for charity. This year, the match will benefit Kids' Meals Houston, an organization that works delivering free healthy meals to the doorsteps of Houston’s hungriest preschool-aged children and provide their families with resources to end the cycle of poverty. The Charities Cup takes place at PNC on Saturday, 7:30 p.m.
Family Movie Night: Luca
Levy Park is hosting a family movie night on Saturday evening featuring a screening of Disney Pixar's Luca. Sponsored by Texas Children's Hospital, the free show begins at 8:30 p.m., with snacks and beverages being available for purchase. Outside furniture is prohibited; blankets and park furniture is permitted.
“One Love” at Discovery Green
The "One Love" Music Festival is coming to Houston Sunday, 12-6 p.m. at Discovery Green. This free entertainment and non-profit community event fundraiser will feature food and live music with an array of performances and various genres including: Country, Zydeco, and R&B.
Houston Dash vs. Portland Thorns
The Houston Dash will take on the Portland Thorns on Sunday, 6 p.m. at PNC Stadium.
