Event Roundup: What to Look Forward to This Weekend

Happy Friday! There are lots of fun holiday happenings this weekend. Highlights include: 

Santa Sightings in Bellaire 
Santa has been spreading holiday cheer around Bellaire this week. This evening is the last chance to wave hello to Santa riding on a Bellaire fire truck. Santa will be making an appearance South of Bellaire/West of S. Rice tonight between 6-8:30 p.m. 

Play in real snow at Children's Museum Houston's Polar Palooza, Dec. 16-Jan. 7.

Polar Palooza at Children’s Museum Houston  
Pack your jackets and mittens and get ready to play in real snow at Children's Museum Houston starting Saturday; the snow will stick around through Jan. 7. After playing in snow, stroll down the museum’s Seasons of Sharing exhibit. There will be special events taking place during Polar Palooza, including Gingerbread Jamboree on Saturday (design and build your own gingerbread house); a performance of A Christmas Carol for Kids by Express Children’s Theatre, Saturday and Sunday; the Texas Six Steppers, a holiday-themed dog show on Sunday. Included with general admission. 

College Basketball Showcase: UT vs. LSU, UH vs. TAMU
Join for a doubleheader of college basketball at Toyota Center, Saturday starting at 11 a.m. The nationally-ranked Texas Longhorns take on LSU, followed by a showdown between Texas A&M and the Houston Cougars. Tickets: $45 are good for both games. 

Christmas on the Boulevard  
The Church of St. John the Divine's annual Christmas on the Boulevard takes place this Saturday, 4-8 p.m. A fun and festive, family-friendly event, Christmas on the Boulevard includes a live nativity, snow, food trucks, a Christmas concert, and jazz reception. Free to attend. 

Houston Folklore and Music Society Holiday Benefit  
Houston Folklore and Music Society, a nonprofit dedicated to the preservation of folklore and folk music, has been around since 1951. Their special holiday benefit takes place Saturday, 7:30-10 p.m., at the West University Community Building. Tickets are sold at the door: $18/adults; seniors (65+): $14; kids under 12: free. 

Rice Village Holiday Market will include live holiday music, photos with Santa, and real snow. 

Rice Village Holiday Market  
Shop for holiday gifts at the Rice Village Farmers Market; the special holiday market on Sunday, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., will include live holiday music from School of Rock, photos with Santa in Santa’s Wonderland (10 a.m.-12 p.m.), and real snow. Stay warm with a “Thyme & Honey” hot toddy available at Prego. Free to attend. 

Bellaire Open Air Holiday Market 
Browse goods and crafts from local vendors at the Bellaire Open Air Market at Evelyn’s Park on Sunday, 12-4 p.m. Enjoy DJ Chris Bell's holiday along with a free penguin craft for kids. Free to attend.
