5th Annual Mariachi Festival
Performing Arts Houston hots the 5th annual Mariachi Festival, celebrating the creativity and enduring legacy of Mariachi music and Hispanic culture. The popular festival brings some of the biggest names in the genre to Houston, including Mariachi Mariposas, Mariachi 7 Leguas, and others from Houston and Mexico. The festival takes place at Wortham Theater all weekend. Tickets vary per event; prices range from $29-155.
Houston Dash vs. Orlando Pride
Houston Dash takes on Orlando Pride at Shell Energy Stadium, Friday, Aug. 23, 7 p.m. Tickets start at $12.
Sugar Land Space Cowboys vs. Albuquerque Isotopes
The Sugar Land Space Cowboys take on the Albuquerque Isotopes at Constellation Field. The weekend schedule is: Friday, 7:05 p.m., Saturday, 7:05 p.m., Sunday, 6:35 p.m. Promotions include Orion's Kids Day (pregame catch on the field, player autographs, postgame Kids Run the Bases presented by Caldwell & Steinbring) on Sunday, Aug. 25. Tickets start at $11.
Movies Under the Stars: Wonka
Head downtown to Trebly Park, grab takeout, pull out your lawn blanket, and enjoy a free movie screening of Wonka (PG) 2023: With dreams of opening a shop in a city renowned for its chocolate, a young and poor Willy Wonka discovers that the industry is run by a cartel of greedy chocolatiers.
Phat Cat Swinger at Miller Outdoor Theatre
Frequent guest performers at the Disneyland Resort, Phat Cat Swinger has been inspired by the treasure trove of material that is the Disney music library. They adapted Disney’s rich musical history to the iconic Phat Cat Swinger sound. Swing, cha cha, and mambo to tunes at Miller Outdoor Theatre tonight, 8:30 p.m. Free.
NFL Preseason: Houston Texans vs. LA Rams
In the Texans’ last home game of the preseason, the Texans take on the Rams, Saturday, 12 p.m. Tickets start at $40.
Little League World Series: Boerne, Texas at Williamsport
Cheer on Boerne Little League is playing in the US Championship game in the Little League World Series at Williamsport, 2:30 p.m. It'll be streamed on ABC.
Hidden Gems Country Music Fest at 8th Wonder
8th Wonder hosts the Hidden Gems Country Music Fest, Saturday, 6-10 p.m., presenting up-and-coming Texas Country Music Stars: Mason Lively & Dustin De La Garza. Free.
Silent Disco in the Park
River Oaks District hosts Silent Disco in the Park, Saturday, 8-10:30 p.m., a fun and unique family-friendly event. Guests will enjoy a selection of tunes presented by two live DJs through personal wireless headphones provided at the event. The Traveling Spirit Bar will be serving disco-themed mocktails, along with Wonder Pops who will offer attendees a variety of refreshing treats. Free.
Mekong: SOUL Produced by Apollo Chamber Players
Mekong: SOUL tells three powerful and multi-sensory stories about life on the Mekong River of Southeast Asia. Apollo Chamber Players will use music, dance, spoken word and moving images to convey these stories. Mekong: SOUL takes place at Miller Outdoor Theatre, Saturday 8 p.m. Free.
National Battle of the Bands
This annual competition features the country’s top marching bands battling it out at NRG Stadium, Sunday, 3:30 p.m. The lineup spotlights TSU’s Ocean of Soul Marching Band along with seven other HBCU programs. Tickets start at $15.
