Yang Tao, a sixth grader at Pershing Middle School, loves to sing and participates in the chorus at school.
I love music, and I love to sing. I sang in the Condit Elementary chorus for two years, and I’m currently singing in the Pershing sixth-grade chorus. When you sing, you express yourself, and it’s like you’re in a different world. I love all kinds of music because they are all unique and special.
I like country music, personally, because it calms me. I also like intense music like pop because you don’t know what to expect and it’s really powerful. All music is potent in its own way, and every type of music is amazing. Singing is meant for many different reasons, starting from soft, soothing music like a lullaby to strong pop music. Music can also encourage people to learn new things.
Singing gets you focused and determined. I truly take pleasure in singing, and I hope you can too. I love singing because it is a good exercise for your vocal cords, and you can develop into a better singer easily, if you’re willing to learn.
I think choir is really fun because you get to learn how to control your voice. I also think that singing is very adventurous because there are many multiple varieties of music. I learn a lot in choir and I have a lot of fun there.
I love instruments too because instruments help you sing. For example, a piano helps keep the tempo of your music just right. Another thing I love about singing is that you don’t have to carry your voice around with you. You can just sing because you already have it with you at all times. A lot of people are inspired greatly by songs, and that just proves the point that your voice is powerful. I think that it’s cool that you can start singing at any age, and that there isn’t an age limit where you have to stop singing. I hope to continue choir in seventh and eighth grade because it’s my favorite thing to do.
