Family Safety Day

Save the date of Saturday, May 9, and join the City of Bellaire from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. from a morning filled with activities and lively demonstrations to keep you and your family safe. Two activities began at 9:30 a.m. so plan to be there early. As a sponsor of the event, Houston Methodist Primary Care Group will offer health screenings with the opportunity to attend free short lectures on health issues. Additional booths will offer information on hurricane preparedness, flood insurance and city services.

Summer activities with a safety focus include swimming and bicycling so children can have a chance to participant in a Bicycle Rodeo to learn safe riding habits. The Bicycle Rodeo begins at 9:30 a.m. and there is a limited number of participants in the Bicycle Rodeo please contact [email protected] or call 713-662-8103 to sign up. At 9:30 a.m., all ages are invited to watch a demonstration of water safety in the pool and children have an opportunity to spray water from a fire hose. Watch fire department personnel demonstrate a vehicle extrication and learn about fire safety that includes fire extinguisher training and a Smoke House simulator that mimics a house full of smoke.

Teens: Learn why texting and driving is not recommended and participate in an impaired driving experience to see what it like to operate a vehicle while under the influence. Registration for impaired driving is also limited, so please contact [email protected] or call 713-662-8103 to sign up. Teens and their parents can also learn what to expect and how to act when stopped by a police officer.

Plan on being in the area around noon to watch the arrival of Life Flight with a chance to talk to the crew. Several city vehicles will also be on display for those who enjoy big trucks up close.

Joggers and walkers can pick up tips available at the Be Safe Be Seen booth and if you want to try your climbing skills there will be a Rock Wall available and a bounce house for the smaller children. Food trucks will be on site for a quick lunch with the event closing at 2 p.m.
