Arielle Harris

I have always had an affinity for writing. Ever since I was a little girl, story telling and reporting was my passion. I wrote my first “novel” at age six, completing a whopping ten pages and tried to convince my parents to send it to a publisher. While my career as a professional child novelist didn’t take off that year, I decide to continue writing short stories and I participated in my elementary school newspaper. As a senior at the Emery/ Weiner school, creating fairy tales is no longer my pastime, but my love for writing has only increased. Given the unique opportunity to write in a magazine that will reach my peers and my neighborhood is something my six-year-old self couldn’t dream of. Houston is my safe haven and no matter where life takes me, I know that the fourth largest city will always be my home. Although living here has its ups and downs, the culture and diversity that thrives in this city outweighs the negatives. Going to the Emery/Weiner School, I have learned to not only embrace my heritage, but also appreciate the sense of community that Houston has and that my school provides. While my school is not as well known as others, my smaller class offers a sense of security and family, not usually seen by the general public. With teachers who love and care for each one of their students, faculty who work hard to make your experience the best possible, and students who rely on each other for emotional and physical support, Emery has helped me grow into the person I am today. Even though this is my last year in Houston and at Emery, the ability to combine my love of writing and my enthusiasm towards my school in creating relevant and interesting articles is such an honor.
