Wiedersehen für jetzt. Translation: “Goodbye for now.” A “Sauerkraut Sendoff” for Sue Feinberg’s departure for Munich was hosted by Frances Rubin. Friends brought German asparagus, cabbage and German chocolate cupcakes to enhance the hearty meal. Pretzels, beer mugs and bratwurst were part of a parody to introduce Sue to unique German life. The cast (Frances, Sharon Maloney, Lili Rubin, Sharon Kiel, Vicky Dyer Smith, Connie Reddy, Connie Senter, Paulette Levine, Ann Bullock, Rosanne Kaufmann and Libby Reisman) spoke with heavy German accents and donned  braids to embellish their parts as, among others, Astrid, Getti, Gretel and Gertrude.

Salty dog martinis. Gal pals were invited to watch the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. When they arrived at Connie Senter’s home and saw their baby pictures attached to dogs’ bodies, they knew this was no ordinary yappy hour and dinner. Guests who guessed correctly which baby went with which adult, and the breed of dog, claimed glam ribbons (provided by Cynthia Mills) for Best Behaved, Most Mischievous and more. Hot dogs, hush puppies, mad dog guacamole with Chihuahua corn chips, poodle cut slaw, barking broccoli and bone cookies were some of the treats. Karen Craig, Ann Bullock, Marilyn Saks, Katina Pontikes, Stephanie Madan and Liebe Ostrow Miller had a howling good time.

Decade of fashion. A stunning but dated red gown was restyled into a strapless wonder, as were several other redesigned gently used dresses. They were on view at The Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary Kick Off Tea to promote its spring Reflections on Style Fashion Show and Luncheon at the River Oaks Country Club on April 15, chaired by Brenda DeVore. The tea, led by Lilly Andress and Vicki West, honored Janice McNair. It was hosted by Neiman Marcus, where Stacy Swift introduced the design masters. Debbie Rogers and Jeanne Roberti, co-chairs of the Chic Boutique, are thrilled to sell the trendy fashions after the money-raising luncheon. Admiring the styles were president Dorothy Nicholson, Gayle Eury, Kaye Horn, Rhonda Jones, Mary Maxey, Ann Bookout, Carol Sharpe, Mickie Huebsch and Kathi Rovere.

The sound of brew. If you go to Germany in January you expect to be colder than Houston, but Evan Howell found it to be the opposite. He left Houston’s damp and cold weather and found Germany was crisp and sunny, perfect ski weather. Evan, who is in the United Nations Choir, was inspired to break into song and sang Edelweiss at a Bavarian beer house in Garmisch (near Munich) to much applause and probably surprise from those chugging away. Other Houston ski buddies on the trip were Jim and Carol Nowicki and Bob and Elizabeth Whidden.

Facebook Bible. When Jessica Berriman signed up for a Bible-study class on Facebook, Bruce Coane saw the posting for the same class. He saw Jessica’s pic among those attending and realized they had mutual friends. When they met at the class, they hit it off instantly. After 2½ years, they went to San Francisco, and as they walked around the Conservatory of Flowers in Golden Gate Park they came across a secluded underpass where musicians played. When they took a rest by some boulders overlooking the flowers and trees, Bruce popped the marriage question. You will see the fall wedding on Facebook.

Hip hip hooray. Shelley Daly’s former cheerleading experience came in handy as she led the cheers for the younger set at the Super Bowl party she and hubby Rick Daly threw. Rick scored a touchdown with his homemade barbecue beef and chicken. Ashley Wehrly Kearney,  Dominique and Nick Floresque, Mickey Altman, Randall Davis, Carolyn Farb, Ben Rose, Laura Max Nelson, Bill Balleza, Susan Glesby, Natalie Reitman and Gary Peterson were in the crowd. Other food, catered from The Corner Table, included chicken, filet, kale salad, bread pudding and chocolate cake. Score!
