Uptown Dance Company Presents "Soul Searching"
Uptown Dance Company kicks off its 2017-18 season with “Soul Searching” at MATCH Theater tonight, 7:30 p.m. The company will premiere two new works by award-winning choreographer Barry Kerollis and artistic director Beth Gulledge-Brown. Company ballet master and resident choreographer Alex Pandiscio restages Café Flor, a piece he created in 2013. Guest artist Rupert Edwards III, formerly of Houston Ballet, joins the company for an evening of meditation on human emotions and relations.
“Galveston Cares” Free Beach Weekend and Shrimp Festival
This weekend, the tourism committee in Galveston is hosting “Galveston Cares” Free Beach Weekend in which all beaches will have free admission, free parking, free trolley rides, free family events at Stewart Beach, a free fireworks show on Saturday evening and more. Also, the Galveston Island Wild Texas Shrimp Festival is donation a portion of Gumbo Stroll tickets to Harvey relief efforts. Try different kinds of gumbo while working around downtown Galveston.
Texas Renaissance Festival kicks off this Saturday and continues through Nov. 26. Escape into a world of kings and queens, lords and ladies, knights, fairies, pirates and more. There are hundreds of performances daily, plus arts, crafts, unique food and drink, themed weekends and more.
Get in the Oktoberfest spirit with German-themed food, beer, live music, games, beer, wine and more at this fun-filled festival at The Water Works on Saturday.
Blessington Farms Pumpkin Patch and Fall Festival
The temperature may not quite feel like fall yet, but celebrate the fall season with a pumpkin patch and family-friendly fall festivities at Blessington Farms in Simonton, which opens this Saturday. Activities include hay rides, giant slides, barrel train rides, pedal cars and animal encounters with camels, Baby Doll sheep, goats, a walk-through aviary, rope maze, fossil dig and more.
