Event Roundup: What to Look Forward to This Weekend
The temperatures are cooling down (for now) and there are lots of fun, holiday-themed events (can you believe it’s the start of the holiday season?) happening. We also take time to honor all who have served this Veteran's Day weekend. Also, don’t miss Dennis Quaid and The Sharks at Bellaire Block Party, a community-wide Harvey relief concert. See below for some of our weekend picks.
The annual Nutcracker Market will take place this weekend at NRG Center. Browse gifts, jewelry, home items and more from over 280 merchants. This year's theme is "Rockin' and Shoppin'" to celebrate the fun, traditional shopping experience with friends and family.
City of Houston's Veterans Day Commemoration and 9/11 Heroes Run Event
Mayor Sylvester Turner will host the annual Veteran’s Day Celebration and the Travis Manion Foundation 9/11 Heroes Run on Saturday beginning at 8 a.m. with the Heroes Run. The H-E-B Commemorative Ceremony will be held on the steps of City Hall at 10 a.m.
Children’s Festival at Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion
The 22nd Annual Children’s Festival will take place at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion on Saturday and Sunday. The safari-themed event will include a variety of performers, character meet and greets and adventures for kids of all ages.
Ice Spectacular at The Galleria
The 29th Annual Ice Spectacular at The Galleria will kick off the holiday season with the lighting of its 55-foot Christmas tree, Saturday evening. The tree-lighting show will feature a performance by TSoul, semi-finalist from Season 12 of The Voice, a special tribute to veterans and dynamic ice routines by professional skater. Skating Santa will light the tree and the event will conclude with a fireworks display.
Veteran’s Day Festival at Levy Park
The Levy Park Conservancy presents a Veterans Day celebration at the park on Saturday with food and beverages, activities, live music and more. Texas-based celebrity chef Tim Love and his team are providing food for the entire weekend at the park.
Bellaire Block Party with Dennis Quaid and The Sharks
The City of Bellaire, Patrons for Bellaire Parks and the Bellaire Business Association are hosting a community-wide Harvey relief concert headlined by Dennis Quaid and the Sharks on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. Dennis Quaid is from Bellaire and is a graduate of Bellaire High School. The event will celebrate veterans as well as the Bellaire Brave.
The Hope After Harvey Music Fest will take place on Sunday starting at 12 p.m. at The Pub Galleria. There will be live bands, raffles, a full bar, food and more. The event will benefit 93 families at Lovett Fine Arts Magnet School whose homes were affected by Harvey.
