Event Roundup: What to Look Forward to This Weekend
Happy Friday! Check out these fun events you can enjoy while closing out the first month of the new year!
If you’re a car aficionado, you won’t want to miss Houston’s car show at NRG Park this weekend, where the world’s top automakers are congregating for a five-day festival that continues throughout the weekend. Wander the over 800,000 square feet space and check out what’s new in the automotive world.
If you’re looking to get out of the city for the weekend, drive down to Galveston and dine at a restaurant participating in Restaurant Week, which kicks off on Saturday and continues through Feb. 10. You can enjoy prix-fixe menus at a discount, but don’t forget to make a reservation!
Texas Children’s Hospital Family Movie Night
Grab your picnic blankets and lawn chairs and head over to Levy Park for a Friday evening Family Movie Night. Hosted by Texas Children’s Hospital, the park will show the Golden Globe winning hit The Greatest Showman, starring Hugh Jackman as well as Michelle Williams, Zac Efron, Rebecca Ferguson and Zendaya.
Grand Re-Opening of Ware Family Park
Check out the newly renovated and re-energized Ware Family Park in Bellaire, and enjoy free games, food and fun at the official re-opening ceremony on Saturday morning. Bellaire Mayor Andrew Friedberg, city officials and PATRONS for Bellaire Parks will lead the official ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the park’s new additions, including play equipment specifically designed for children of all abilities.
Visit the new downtown-area pop-up boutique for a free fashion show held at Discovery Green on Saturday afternoon. The event features local designers including Project Runway winner Chloe Dao, and it gives more than 40 Houston-based apparel and accessories designers the opportunity to showcase their talents on the runway. Guests are invited to visit the pop-up before the show to shop, and to stick around after the show for a post fashion show party with DJ Little Martin.
Join the Houston Astros for the official kickoff for the 2019 MLB season on Saturday afternoon. The day includes autograph sessions, photo opportunities, games and more!
Take your family and friends out for a night of jaw-dropping entertainment at Monster Jam, where world-class truck drivers will be testing their vehicles’ limits through high-speed competitions and stunts. Held at NRG Stadium on Saturday evening, the event includes a variety of competitions, some of which attendees can judge directly through their mobile phone.
On Sunday, Bayou Bend welcomes children and their families to a free afternoon of art-making workshops, a collaborative art project, and interactive games. The first floor of the main house and the Texas Room will be open for tours led by the Houston Junior Woman’s Club, and guests can enjoy live music on the Hevrdejs Plaza.
