Event Roundup: What to Look Forward to This Weekend
Happy Friday! Kick off the first weekend of May with these exciting events we’ve rounded up.
UT Health Stomp Out Stroke Festival
Enjoy family-friendly entertainment, free health screenings and lifesaving information about stroke prevention at the seventh annual Stomp Out Stroke Festival. Held at Discovery Green on Saturday, this is a great way to learn more about an important health issue while having fun in the sun!
Cinco De Mayo Parade
Join the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) District 8 in their annual Cinco de Mayo Parade on Saturday morning! Watch as elected officials, members of the community, businesses, schools, colleges, and others walk and dance the streets of downtown to the rhythm of great Latin beats.
Kentucky Derby Day
This Saturday marks what many call “The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports” (aka The Kentucky Derby). If you can’t make it to Louisville, you can still watch live American Quarter Horse Racing here in Houston at the Sam Houston Race Park on Saturday afternoon. You’ll also have a chance to watch and wager on the Kentucky Derby Card.
Nitro Circus
Take your Saturday night to whole new level by attending Nitro Circus, a crazy, adventurous live show where world-class daredevils perform shocking stunts, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in action sports. The event takes place at Constellation Park in Sugar Land, and it features athletes at the top of their game in FMX, BMX, Skate, Scooter and more.
NBA Playoffs: Rockets v Warriors
The Houston Rockets are down 0-2 to the Golden State Warriors in the Western Conference semifinals, so they need your support in Game 3! It’s a home game at Toyota Center so we’re crossing our fingers that the home-court advantage will help them secure a win.
Justin’s TRIumph Youth Splash ’n Dash
Encourage your kids to get active this Sunday while also supporting a good cause at the 4th Annual Justin’s TRIumph Youth Splash ’n Dash, a youth swimming/running event held at the Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center. Proceeds will go towards helping find a cure for GAN disease, a rare DNA mutation that requires further research.
Cinco De Mayo with Kinder HSPVA
Celebrate Cinco De Mayo Sunday afternoon at Discovery Green! Enjoy a celebration of Mexican culture and heritage with an exciting lineup of live music and traditional dance, including a headlining performance by the Kinder HSPVA Mariachis.
Cinco de Mayo Block Party
Enjoy an all-day block party on Washington Avenue this Sunday to celebrate Cinco De Mayo! The event features Folklorico dancers, Mariachi bands, raffles, stilt walker, games and of course plenty of food and drinks. Must be 21+ to attend.
Cinco de Mayo on the Bayou
For a more relaxed Cinco de Mayo celebration, enjoy an evening cruise along Houston’s historic waterway on the Buffalo Bayou Partnership’s pontoon boat. You’ll eat tasty tacos from downtown’s La Calle restaurant and drink beer provided by St. Arnold’s Brewery.
Cinco de Mayo at Miller
Enjoy Mexican music and culture with Grammy-Award winning artist Lupillo Rivera at this season’s Cinco de Mayo celebration at Miller Outdoor Theater. Free tickets are available at the Miller Outdoor Theatre box office on the day of the performance 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m.1
