Happy Friday! Here’s some weekend fun happening around town:
México en el Corazón
Discovery Green hosts México en el Corazón on Friday evening. A free, family-friendly evening including Mariachi music, ballet folklorico and other representations of Mexican heritage. Enjoy more than 50 performers including students from the Kinder High School for the Performing and Visual Arts (Kinder HSPVA) and Houston-based Nueva Luna, a ballet folklorico troupe.
Fall Concert at Market Square Park
Market Square Park hosts their Fall Concert on Friday evening featuring live music from regional musicians. Husband and wife duo, The Watters, will open the concert with Texas groups Band of Heathens and Shinyribs. The concert will then headline with NBC's "The Voice" former contestant, and Austin native, Nakia with his band The Blue Grifters. Bring a lawn chair or picnic blanket and enjoy the show.
A Tribute to Whitney Houston
Whitney Houston’s musical legacy is brought to life in this critically acclaimed tribute show starring Belinda Davids at Miller Outdoor Theater. The show takes place both Friday and Saturday evening. Hear Houston’s greatest hits.
Sawyer Yards Second Saturday
Spend Saturday wandering through Sawyer Yards’ studio buildings. Browse through paintings, sculpture, photography and more, and meet the artists. The open studio event on Second Saturday includes an outdoor market and breweries.
Screen on the Green
Bring a blanket or lawn chair and picnic and enjoy everyone’s favorite superhero family in Incredibles 2 outdoors at Discovery Green Saturday night.
Football Season
Here’s what’s on tap for this weekend in football season: The 2019 AdvoCare Texas Kickoff with the University of Houston Cougars vs. Washington State Cougars on NRG Stadium on Friday, 8:15 p.m. On Saturday at 7 p.m., Rice Owls vs. Texas Longhorns at NRG Stadium. And on Sunday, Houston Texans vs. Jacksonville Jaguars at NRG, 12 p.m.
