Happy Friday! Find lots of family-friendly fun happening around town this weekend, including:
56th WorldFest Houston
The annual WorldFest, the oldest independent film festival in the world, is a five-day event with 30 feature premieres and 60 internal short film premieres, held at Cinemark Memorial City. The festival began on Tuesday and continues with film screenings through the weekend. Tickets start at $15.
Astros vs. Phillies
The Astros take on the Phillies in a three-game series at Minute Maid, Friday, 7:10 p.m.; Saturday, 4:10 p.m.; and Sunday, 6:10 p.m.
Family Movie Night at Levy Park
Families are welcome for a movie night presented by Texas Children’s tonight at 8 p.m. There will be a free screening of Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (PG).
Movie Screening at Market Square Park
Enjoy a free screening of the movie Eat, Pray, Love (PG-13) at Market Square Park tonight, 8 p.m.
Spring Fling Festival at Nature Discovery Center
Nature Discovery Center’s Spring Fling Festival, which takes place on Saturday, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., will include nature and environmental activities, crafts and exhibits for kids, family nature hikes, animals, and more. There will be a variety of educational and fun activities. Admission is free.
Bellaire Arts and Crafts Festival
The Bellaire Culture and Arts Board hosts the popular, annual Bellaire Arts and Crafts Festival on Saturday, 10-4 p.m. at Paseo Park. Browse arts and crafts from over 70 vendors. Enjoy music, food, and a festive atmosphere. Admission is free.
Galveston’s Annual Grand Kids Festival
The annual Grand Kids Festival, celebrating children, families, and folk art, takes place in Galveston’s historic downtown Cultural Arts District on Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Presented by The Grand 1894 Opera House, the family-friendly festival takes place on Postoffice Street and features live performances and entertainment plus a range of fun, family-friendly activities.
18th Annual Frida Festival
The annual Frida Festival takes place at MECA on Saturday, 11 a.m.-7 p.m., and features local musicians and performers along with an arts market. There will be a Frida look-alike contest for all ages. The Viva Frida! Art Exhibition is on view through Sunday at MECA Easte End at TBH.
Festival of Eid 2023
Join Asia Society Texas for the fifth annual Eid Festival on Saturday, 4-8 p.m. Celebrate Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan, with food, performances, artist demonstrations, activities, and games. There will be music and dance performances, an outdoor bazaar of local vendors, demonstrations, food trucks, and more.
XFL Playoffs: Houston Roughnecks vs. Arlington Renegades
The XFL Roughnecks will host their first playoff game, the South Division Championship, Saturday, 6 p.m., at TDECU Stadium. It's the first Roughnecks' playoff game in history.
Bellaire Open Air Market
Shop local vendors at Bellaire Open Air Market, held at Evelyn’s Park, this Sunday, 12-4 p.m.
Día del Niño at Children's Museum
Celebrate Día del Niño at Children’s Museum Houston on Sunday, 12-6 p.m., with story times, live music, and science demonstrations, in partnership with Univision. A mariachi band will perform in front of the museum, 12-4 p.m. Encanto fans will enjoy an interactive story time with Maribel and Bruno at 2 and 4 p.m.
Sunday Concert Series at Houston Botanic Garden
The Houston Botanic Garden’s Sunday Concert Series provides a refreshing, family-friendly outdoor cultural experience combining the sound of live music with the aural sensations of nature. On Sunday, enjoy alternative rock with East of Eado, 4-6 p.m., at the Garden. Each Sunday performance is included in the cost of general admission. Ticket prices on Sundays are $15 for adults and $10 for students (with current ID) and children age 3 and older.
