Houston Arboretum & Nature Center hosts its annual Arbor Day Celebration, where guests can celebrate trees and all the incredible things they do for wildlife. Go on a hike to discover how animals use trees, make some wooden woodland friends, learn how to make nest boxes, and even meet Johnny Appleseed. There will be plenty of tree activities and crafts to enjoy. Crafts will be available while supplies last.
Live at Live Oak, celebrating Lunar New Year

Memorial Park Conservancy, along with presenting sponsor H-E-B, invite the community to celebrate Lunar New Year during Live at Live Oak, an outdoor music event on January 25. Bring your loved ones, friends, and picnic blankets to enjoy a memorable evening of music and festivity. This series is free and open to everyone. This concert will mark the third event in a four-part music series. Each event is dedicated to a different cultural holiday, highlighting the rich diversity of the community. The celebration will feature a live performance by Unity Dragon and Lion Dance Troupe, a Houston nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering individuals to learn, promote, and celebrate the art and culture of dragon dance, lion dance, and martial arts. Holocaust Museum Houston Commemorates Holocaust Remembrance Day

In 2005, the United Nations General Assembly designated January 27 – the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau – as International Holocaust Remembrance Day. Holocaust Museum Houston (HMH) will honor International Holocaust Remembrance Day on Jan. 27, 2025, with a free evening lecture from from award-winning diplomatic correspondent Amir Tibon. Hear the gripping true story of how he and his family were rescued from Kibbutz Nahal Oz on October 7, 2023, by Tibon’s own father, a retired IDF general. In addition, the Museum will host free admission on Sunday, Jan. 26 at HMH’s Lester and Sue Smith Campus located at 5401 Caroline Street. Reserve free tickets at hmh.org/Remembrance.

The Grammy Award-winning Houston Chamber Choir, under the direction of founder and artistic director Robert Simpson, presents the 25th annual Hear the Future Invitational Choral Festival on Sunday in the beautiful sanctuary of South Main Baptist Church. Each year, the Houston Chamber Choir invites three outstanding school choirs from the Greater Houston area to participate in this festival. This year’s community concert, celebrating 25 years, features a children’s chorus and middle and high school choirs and is free and open to the public.

Children’s Texas Art and Makers Festival

Bayou Bend presents an afternoon celebrating art – created by and for children – that forges connections between Texas history and American heritage. Children and their families may take part in art-making workshops; participate in a collaborative group project; play interactive games; and see demonstrations that emphasize the way that art keeps everyone connected to the past, how it improves the present, and why preserving it is important for the future. Body Worlds 101: The Core of Life Exhibit at The Health Museum

Making its global premiere, Body Worlds 101: The Core of Life is a newly curated exhibition not seen before and designed to ignite curiosity, understanding, and awe for the human body for visitors of all ages. Curated by Dr. Angelina Whalley, Body Worlds 101 introduces the fascinating world of human anatomy through plastination, the revolutionary specimen preservation method invented by renowned anatomist Dr. Gunther von Hagens. Exhibits will include real human specimens, from complete whole bodies to individual organs and intricate anatomical slices, showcasing the mechanisms that sustain life. The exhibition will also include a specially designed piece for the Houston showing.
