The real Ironman

Plastic surgeon Dr. Abdel Fustok, 78, who moved to Houston in 1975, began to jog in 1988. He is now completing Ironman races. After he began jogging, he decided to race in the Houston Marathon. After completing several marathons, he realized he wanted a bigger challenge and began running 50- and 100-mile races called ultramarathons. He eventually moved on from ultramarathons to compete in his first Ironman Triathlon in Florida in 2004. He has since participated in 15 Ironman triathlons, three of which have been Ironman world championships. In October, he will participate in his fourth Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii. He is married to Malak Fustok and has three children, Hussam, Eman and Omar.
