Event Roundup: What to Look Forward to This Weekend
Happy Friday, y’all! The school year is quickly approaching, so be sure to take advantage of Tax-Free weekend by supporting local businesses and saving a little extra. There are also plenty of fun events happening around the city for the whole family to enjoy, including:
Jurassic Quest
Calling all dinosaur enthusiasts: Jurassic Quest is coming to Houston’s NRG Center for a limited run, Aug. 4-7. Activities include life-like moving and roaring dinosaurs, dinosaur themed rides, live dinosaur shows, and a giant fossil dig for people of all ages to enjoy. Tickets are $22 for kids and adults; $19 for seniors; free for kids under 2.
Party at the Pavilion Featuring Mason Granade Band
If you’re ready to rock this weekend then come on down to the Bellaire Town Square and enjoy a free concert featuring classic rock band Mason Granade Band, Friday at 7 p.m. Have a picnic while listening to classic rock hits for people of all ages or purchase food from Zoa Moroccan Kitchen, which will be onsite.
Houston Restaurant Weeks 2022
Houston Restaurant Weeks are in full swing. Check out the list of restaurants offering multi-course prix fixe menus for dine-in and take-out. Be sure to take advantage of these deals and help support the Houston Food Bank while you eat in style.
Movies Under the Stars in Market Square Park
Come watch the '80s classic The Breakfast Club on Friday at 8 p.m., and don’t you forget about movies under the stars in Market Square Park.
Houston Shakespeare Festival
The Houston Shakespeare Festival continues at Miller Outdoor Theatre this weekend, showcasing two of the Bard’s most famous works. Come see King Lear, a tragic story of misplaced faith and family strife, on Friday, 8: 15 p.m., or Cymbeline, a combined tragedy and romance focused on jealousy, on Saturday, 8:15 p.m.
3rd Annual Watermelon Dash
Families that run together stay together so consider signing up for the 3rd Annual Watermelon Dash, Saturday, 7:30 a.m. There are three different races to choose from: 10K, 5K, and a KIDS K/Family Walk, all of which will get your blood pumping and heart racing. Plus, get in the watermelon spirit here.
Busy Bees on Buffalo Bayou
Buffalo Bayou is buzzing with activity this summer as part of its Busy Bees educational programming. On Saturday, enjoy seed ball making with Buffalo Bayou Partnership and bee-themed arts and crafts, led by Laura Hernandez Early Childhood Center.
George Hermann's 179th Birthday
Celebrate Hermann Park’s founder’s 179th birthday on Saturday, starting at 10 a.m., with free birthday cake, face painting, and arts and crafts at Hermann Park Conservancy. Train rides will be offered to children 12 and under for just $1.79. Visitors will also be privy to $1.79 food specials at Ginger Kale and free frozen treats at Gelu Italian Ice.
MD Anderson's Back To School Fashion Show
On Saturday, 12-2 p.m, the Galleria will be hosting its 10th annual MD Anderson Back To School Fashion featuring this season's hottest back-to-school trends. Attendees will also be able to enjoy activities including face painting, balloon artists and a coloring station.
White Linen Night
Head over to The Heights in your white linens and with your pearliest smiles this Saturday. There will be many fun events happening around the neighborhood throughout the day.
