Event Roundup: What to Look Forward to This Weekend
Happy Friday! For many families, it’s a particularly happy Friday with the kickoff of Spring Break celebrations. If you’re sticking around town this weekend, here are some highlights:
RodeoHouston
The Rodeo continues with a wider range of entertainment and activities for all ages. This weekend, the performance lineup includes: Friday – The Chainsmokers; Saturday – Turnpike Troubadours; Sunday – Go Tejano Day, presented by Fiesta Mart – La Fiera de Ojinaga.
Houston Pets Alive!’s St. Pawtrick’s Day
Bring your friends, family, and furry friends to Houston Pets Alive!’s St. Pawtrick’s Day on Saturday at Powder Keg for a day of fun. Sign your pup up to participate in a Treat Toss judged by local and pup celebrities, or try out the Diggin’ for Gold competition. There will be local beer, Irish coffee, food trucks, a vendor market, prizes, and more. Looking for a furry friend to join your family? There will be dog adoptions during the event, too. Free to attend, but registration is required, and there are drink/contest tickets available for purchase. Proceeds benefits Houston Pets Alive! All ages are welcome, but 21+ only to purchase drink tickets.
51st Annual Buffalo Bayou Regatta
The largest canoe and kayak race in Texas will take place along Buffalo Bayou on Saturday morning. Participants ages 12 and older can compete in solo, tandem, or unlimited boating categories, or paddle for fun along an 8.5-mile stretch of the bayou. Register here to support Buffalo Bayou Partnership and participate in this Houston tradition. The start/finish line is Allen’s Landing. Start time is at 9 a.m. and finish line festivities take place from 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Awards Ceremony is at 1:30 p.m.
Tree Dedication in Memory of Diane McLaughlan
A special dedication will be held in memoriam for Diane McLaughlan on Saturday, 3 p.m. at the Bellaire Library Green Space. PATRONS for Bellaire Park has planted a tree and placed a memorial plaque at the Library Greens Space to honor their long-standing board member and esteemed civic figure in Bellaire. Space Center Houston’s 2nd annual Moon 2 Mars Festival
Space Center Houston’s annual Moon 2 Mars Festival, which is all about bringing people and space closer together, kicks off on Saturday and continues through Sunday, March 19. The space-themed festival features family-friendly activities and live music, along with tasty bites and exciting space exploration experiences. Artists include David Cook, Sister Hazel, Rick Springfield, and Bidi Bidi Banda.
Destination Celebration Spring Break Bash at Children's Museum Houston
Children’s Museum Houston is a Spring Break destination for families. The fun begins Saturday and continues through March 19. There are ongoing activities and adventures, including Bungee Trampolines and Human Hamster Balls, performances and more. This Saturday, look forward to a “Rock the Block” Street Fest featuring Houston Art Car Parade cars, carnival games, mini golf, double hoop basketball and more. Sunday brings Mario Mania, with special visits from Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and Toad.
62nd Annual Houston St. Patrick’s Parade and Celebration
The annual St. Patrick’s Parade and Celebration takes place on Saturday at the POST Houston, including a full day of activities, such as games, food, Irish performances, an outdoor market, DJ, and more. The event is free and open to all ages. The annual parade departs from POST at 12 p.m. and will make its way through downtown and return to the Southwest parking lot around 1:30 p.m. Festivities continue through 7 p.m.
Houston Rockets vs. Chicago Bulls
Root for the Rockets as they play against the Bulls at Toyota Center, Saturday, 7 p.m. Tickets start at $20.
Houston HoliFest 2023 – Festival of Colors
Celebrate Holi, the Festival of Colors, on Sunday, 11 a.m.-4 pm. at India House with a fun-filled, colorful festival. Dance to live performances, enjoy a rich cultural program, a bazaar and food, and more.
Opening of Pipilotti Rist: Pixel Forest and Worry Will Vanish at MFAH
This special experience brings together two works from the Museum’s collections: Pixel Forest, an installation of thousands of hanging LED lights; and Worry Will Vanish, a video projection that takes viewers on a dreamlike journey through the natural landscape, the human body, and the heavens. The presentation transforms the vast, central gallery of Cullinan Hall into a cosmic destination. The MFAH exhibit opens March 12 and continues through Sept. 4.
