Maura Leon Barber

New Houston resident and public relations professional Maura Leon Barber has joined the City of West University Place as the new communications manager. In her new role, Leon Barber will be responsible for external communications and community outreach for the neighborhood city. She will be the primary media contact, social media manager and the public information officer during an emergency situation.

Leon Barber was most recently communications manager for the Houston Independent School District and has a background in local government strategic communications, having held communications roles in Fishers, Indiana and with the City of Indianapolis Department of Public Safety.

She has a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism and political science from Indiana University and a master’s degree in public relations from Indiana University in Indianapolis (IUPUI). During her time off, Leon Barber enjoys exploring Houston with her husband, Gerard, and her five year-old son.
