Happy Friday! There are lots of fun things going on around town for this first weekend in January, including:
Closing Weekend of Holiday Events
If you haven’t had the chance to check out some of these festive events or want to extend the holiday season just a little bit further, this weekend is the final one for:

- Cistern Illuminated (through Sun., Jan. 8)
- Snow Days at Children’s Museum Houston (through Sun., Jan. 8)
HSPVA Students Perform a Dance Inspired by “Solstice”
Kinder HSPVA Students perform a dance created especially for Solstice, the current art installation at Discovery Green. Guest choreographer, Laura Gutierrez, will work with students to create a new piece responding to the site and the Solstice art installation. Gutierrez is a highly regarded performing artist and choreographer. See a video here. Students perform at Discovery Green’s Brown Foundation Promenade, Friday-Saturday, 6:30-7:30 p.m., at Discovery Green.
Houston Tri Delta Alumnae's the SALE Houston Benefiting MD Anderson
Presented by Houston Tri Delta Philanthropies, Inc., the fundraising arm of the Houston Tri Delta Alumnae Chapter, the SALE is a shopping extravaganza for a great cause. The event features premier boutiques with dramatically discounted merchandise. Proceeds benefit MD Anderson. Shopping (one-day general admission: $30; two-day general admission: %50) takes place Friday-Saturday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
Japan Junction: Oshogatsu 2023
Celebrate the New Year with Japan Junction at Levy Park on Saturday, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. The event and all activities are free. Try your hand at Kakizome (the first Japanese calligraphy of the year), play traditional Japanese new year games, make a daruma goal setting doll, and pound mochi.
Houston Rockets vs. Minnesota Timberwolves
The Rockets take on the Timberwolves at Toyota Center on Sunday, 6 p.m.
