Event Roundup: What to Look Forward to This Labor Day Weekend
Happy Labor Day weekend! Celebrate the last (official) few days of summer 2022. If you’re staycationing, here are some ideas of fun ways to spend the weekend in Houston. (As always, please check individual event sites for any weather-related updates.)
Party at the Pavilion Featuring THE FAB 5
Beatles cover band THE FAB 5 will perform at Party at the Pavilion, Friday, 7 p.m., a free outdoor concert at Bellaire Town Square hosted by PATRONS for Bellaire Parks and the City of Bellaire. Bellaire Broiler Burger will be there with their food truck.
Arooj Aftab at Miller Outdoor Theatre
On Friday, 8 p.m., Grammy-winning singer and songwriter Arooj Aftab takes the stage for a performance presented by Asia Society Texas. Arooj Aftab is a Brooklyn-based Pakistani vocalist, music composer, and producer.
Farewell Summer WonderWeek
Soak up those summery vibes with a WonderWeek of fun at Children’s Museum Houston. Activities all week (through Saturday, Sept. 3) include Sailboat Design using Matisse’s torn paper technique, Ice Cream Garland, Thermoplastic Dinos, and more.
Mid-Autumn Festival 2022
Asia Society Texas' Mid-Autumn Festival features Taiwanese artists and photography, Vietnamese storytelling, and exciting art activities such as lantern-making, paper cutting, and faux mooncakes. There will be performances, food and drink for sale, a parade, and more. The festival takes place on Saturday, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at Asia Society Texas. Admission is free but registration is required.
The Ultimate Event 2022
The Ultimate Event – a unique shopping experience including an auto show, live music, games, more than 70 vendors, and entertainment – takes place Saturday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., at George R. Brown Convention Center. Tickets: $15-30.
Chalk on the Block
Visit Bagby Park in Midtown to experience interactive 3D sidewalk chalk art on Saturday, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. For this month’s event, artists’ designs will celebrate Hispanic heroes. Attendees can participate in loteria, a Latino bingo game. Prizes and giveaways are available.
Mercury Chamber Orchestra at Miller Outdoor Theatre
On Saturday, 8 p.m., Mercury Chamber Orchestra performs some classic favorites by Vivaldi, Elgar, Fritz Kreisler, George Gershwin, and more. Mercury Chamber Orchestra has a mission to impact the lives of young Houstonians through award-winning music education programs.
Labor Day Celebration at Kemah Boardwalk
Enjoy a day of live music on the plaza at Kemah Boardwalk on Sunday, starting at 1 p.m., and a fireworks show starting at 9 p.m.
Labyrinth at Discovery Green
Local artist Reginald C. Adams created a labyrinth out of flowering plants at Discovery Green. The installation will be open through Labor Day and the artist will be there on Sunday, 8:30 p.m. to guide a meditation and sound bath at the labyrinth.
Labor Day at the Lone Star Flight Museum
The Lone Star Flight Museum is closing out a “plane amazing” summer with a Labor Day celebration on Monday. Admission is $10 and includes a free hot dog and drink (while supplies last). Visitors can look forward to plane tours, flight simulators, a pilot experience, and more.
Labor Day Live Music at CityCentre
Sean Heyl will perform pop/rock favorites at the CityCentre plaza on Monday, 6-9 p.m.
Houston Astros vs. Texas Rangers
The 'Stros take on the Rangers in a three-game series at Minute Maid. The first game takes place Monday, 6:10 p.m.
Houston Restaurant Weeks 2022
Dine out for a cause - Houston Restaurant Weeks continues through this Monday. See the list of participating restaurants offering specially priced, multi-course prix fixe menus benefiting the Houston Food Bank.
